Staffordshire County Council has set a target of repairing 40,000 potholes by 31 March 2027. The authority is asking Stone residents to identify which roads and junctions should be prioritised next.
Recent work has been completed around the roundabouts beside the Whitebridge Estate. A separate improvement programme is now under way in Stone town centre, covering Stafford Street, Crown Street, Newcastle Street, Station Road, Granville Square, Christchurch Way and Radford Street. This scheme is scheduled to continue until Friday 23 October.
Funding and resources
The pothole programme is supported by £15 million of additional highways investment over two years. Fourteen new crews are being deployed to tackle defects across Staffordshire. Different repair methods, including screeding and urban velocity patching, will be used depending on the location and condition of each road.
In June, a total of 4,655 defects were repaired across the county.
Which roads need attention?
The council is placing particular emphasis on category three defects. These do not require the immediate response given to the most serious road hazards but can still cause problems for drivers, cyclists and residents.
Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said: "With this in place, we hope that residents will see a real difference in their communities, and motorists will benefit from better journeys around the county."
