Staffordshire's Community Learning Service has helped more than 2,000 people sign up to courses this year, transforming lives across Stafford and beyond. The council-run scheme supports adults who have struggled to access mainstream education, building their confidence and preparing them for work. With courses running at over 30 venues plus online options, the service is reaching thousands of local residents.
The programme is delivering impressive results, with a remarkable 99% pass rate. Learners are developing practical skills ranging from critical thinking to AI literacy and reading – all designed to prepare people for modern jobs. Courses are tailored to help adults move towards employment and boost their confidence in the workplace.
Half of all learners have a disability, learning difficulty or long-term mental health condition. Nearly two-thirds of participants hadn't studied for over three years before joining the Stafford Community Learning Service. This shows the scheme is successfully reaching people who face the biggest barriers to education and employment.
Robin Hall, Staffordshire Council's economy chief, said the results speak for themselves. "Skills change lives. Seeing people grow in confidence and move towards work is exactly why these programmes matter," he explained. The council is now planning even bigger expansion, with new Skills Bootcamps launching next year to provide sector-specific training that employers actually need.
