Three more public drop-in sessions are being held this week for people to view Stafford Borough Council's development framework for the future of the town centre.
The sessions take place at the Guildhall Shopping Centre in Market Square. They run from 11am to 3pm on Wednesday 2 September and Thursday 3 September, with a further session from 11am to 1pm on Saturday 5 September.
The council said around 100 people attended the latest session at the Guildhall Shopping Centre last week, where the framework was displayed.
What the Stafford town centre framework includes
The proposals set out a vision for a new market hall with artisan retail, a food court, entertainment and space for business start-ups. They also include a range of accommodation, pocket parks, improved public spaces and a proposed expansion of the college, while retaining historic landmarks.
Stafford resident Diane Harris, 68, said: “I've seen a lot of changes over the years, and it would be nice to see the town transformed as soon as possible. What I have seen today looks good - now they have just got to get on with it.”
Council leader Aidan Godfrey said there was still considerable work to do. He added: “What we are looking at is a shift away from tired and vacant shopfronts in a high street that operates primarily in the daytime to a place that people are proud to live in and, equally importantly, want to spend their time in.”
The framework follows the council's purchase and demolition of the former Guildhall Shopping Centre and Co-op department store using government funding. Demolition is also taking place at the former Wilko building, which has been earmarked as additional premises for Newcastle and Stafford College Group.
The council said the historic Guildhall and Co-op frontages will be retained. Further information is available on the Stafford regeneration website.
