Six green spaces run by Stafford Borough Council have been awarded Green Flag status, the UK's international quality mark for parks and open spaces.
Victoria Park and Wildwood Park in Stafford have each claimed their twentieth and seventh Green Flag awards respectively. Tixall Road crematorium in Stafford has retained its fifteenth award, while the cemetery on Eccleshall Road has kept its ninth. In Stone, Stonefield Park has achieved its eleventh award and Stone cemetery has won for an eighth time.
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces. Nearly 2,400 UK sites won the award this year.
Council Recognition
Joss Presland, Head of Operations at the Borough Council, said the awards reflect independent feedback from national judges about how well maintained the sites are.
He acknowledged the work of council staff and volunteers, particularly Friends groups that support the parks. He said these groups are "instrumental in us receiving the 'Green Flags'".
