Stafford Borough Council has released images showing how a new inclusive play area will look at Rowley Park Sports Stadium following a £1.2m investment.

The first phase of work is expected to start later this year. Preliminary work has already improved the main gates and entrance to the park, with pathway improvements ongoing.

Award-winning outdoor playground equipment specialists Wicksteed will carry out the revamp. The council expects the work to be completed in Spring 2027.

What will be included

The new play area will feature inclusive and accessible facilities for youngsters. A learn to ride facility, fitness equipment, seating, and woodland planting are also planned.

These proposals follow feedback from local people and park users. The council visited schools to gather views from children and discussed options with representatives from disability groups to ensure the facilities are accessible.

How it is being funded

The £1.2m is being funded through developer contributions — money that developers provide to local authorities to deliver community benefits as part of house building or other developments.

Future plans

Additional proposals for the park will be drawn up when more funding becomes available. These include a wheeled sports area, community sports hub, changing rooms with new public toilets, junior tennis courts, walking routes, picnic places, and an improved car park.

Rowley Park Sports Stadium is home to an artificial football pitch, athletics track, and bowling green, and is used by thousands of youngsters, families, and sportspeople.
